Style

These vases are made by applying the Neriage technique, in which several colors of clay are combined with form on the potter’s wheel, combining white porcelain, rough-textured ceramic clay, and blue glaze.

The arrangement of colors is beautifully reminiscent of the seashore, and the expression of the different clay and glaze textures as a spiral pattern is a rare and precious feature not found in other ceramics.

The rim is not straight but cut out like a natural rock. The modern, yet natural scenery appearance of the pieces makes it suitable for display as an art piece.

However, it can also be used as a flower vase because of the transparent glaze on the interior.

There are four variations as shown in the picture. When ordering, please choose your preference of A, B, C, or D.

*Due to the rather large size of this piece, please allow one week for packaging and shipping.

Care Information

  • Hand wash: Most of Saori M Stoneware items are dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended. Please use mild soap and warm water. Avoid harsh chemicals or metal sponges that can scratch the surface of the glaze or clay.
  • Avoid extreme temperature changes: Sudden changes in temperature can cause handmade ceramics to crack or break. Avoid placing ceramics directly on a stovetop or in the oven, as well as placing them in the freezer.
  • Do Not Stack: To avoid scratches or chips, use protective padding such like papers, cloth when stacking ceramic dishes or bowls to store.
  • Dry Storing: Avoid storing ceramics in a damp or humid environment in long term, as it can cause mold to the piece.
