Q. How are Saori M Stoneware pieces made?
A. Saori M Stoneware pieces are crafted by hand using pottery wheel or hand-building techniques by a Japanese ceramic artist Saori Matsushita. The work process is available on YouTube channel, click HERE to watch the video.
Q. What is stoneware?
A. Stoneware is a type of ceramic pottery that is made from a dense, non-porous clay fired at a high temperature. Stoneware is known for its durability, strength, and resistance to chipping and cracking.
Q. What is Neriage?
A. Neriage is a decorative ceramic technique in which two or more different colored clays are combined to create patterns or designs. The technique involves layering the clays together and then cutting, folding, or twisting the layered clay to create a specific pattern. Also called Agateware or marbling.
Q. Doesn't the unglazed finish make it more resistant to stains?
A. Saori Matsushita's works are finished by high-temperature firing, which makes the base semi-glass-like, making them stain-resistant.
Q. Do you offer custom pieces?
A. Saori M Stoneware may offer custom commission work. Contact the pottery maker to inquire about commission work, and be prepared to provide details about the desired piece and any specific requirements.
Care information
Care information
- Hand wash: Always hand wash handmade ceramics with mild soap and warm water. Avoid harsh chemicals or metal sponges that can scratch the surface of the glaze or clay.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes: Sudden changes in temperature can cause handmade ceramics to crack or break. Avoid placing ceramics directly on a stovetop or in the oven, as well as placing them in the freezer.
- Use protective padding: To avoid scratches or chips, use protective padding when stacking or storing ceramic dishes or bowls.
- Dry Storing: Avoid storing ceramics in a damp or humid environment in long term, as it can cause mold to the piece.
